| In dark steamy shadows he waits to strike. Prime time to take a dare, knows what he likes. Instinctive fires guide to her lusty stare. Figure calls his mind to claw, rip and tear.
Sweats, breathes, moves to please. Hands run up and down her sides she knows how to tease. Hot, bold, burning the night. She's on fire.
His steel rod of love knows when to inject. Gaining pleasure from the whip regardless of the effects. He turns around and walks away, he sees her empty stare. She was hot but what she got fulfilled his evil dare

| Oh boy! She's On Fire. You know what, this is okay- for what it was. We discussed making a demo of a song on my Fostex 4 track. I had a few originals but Brian sprung the main riffs on me one day in practice. It was simple enough but mostly it was him being lazy and not wanting to learn one of my songs and I wasn't too happy about it. In an unintended way it was the best thing to do because my stuff was a bit involved and it would have taken alot of time to learn. I took his riffs home and shored up a few things and wrote the harmony melody at the end. Andy handles the recording details which really is no small feat considering the process of getting 8 tracks mixed to 4 tracks then to 2 track. Jeff was the master of this but he wasn't in the band and this would have served it's purpose had the band not broken up shortly there after. John was given the song and he wrote and recorded lyrics entitled "By The Wayside" It was awful, it took him forever. Brian, Andy and I sat in Nina's Pizzeria one day and fleshed out new lyrics. Again, the type of shallow stuff I hated but I went along with it and contributed quite a few lines. Brian went in and sang the parts and really did an outstanding job of both the main and backing vocal. He cracks a few places but this was just a demo to help us get some club dates. He also messed up a word in the last line of the 2nd verse but I guess we didn't care as long as he nailed the take. Brian and I did a trade off solo. Each of us got 4 segments. Brain starts it off. Brain was alot like Todd Hensley in that he played off the cuff where as I wrote my solos out and actually nailed them pretty quick. I thought we pulled that off really well on this song. One of my most flattering moments in life was when a guitar player that was better than me in high school was now trying to learn my solos from this song. Now all these songs later I think that's still the only solo of mine anyone ever tried to copy. I don't think I played any of the rhythm tracks but I might have played both harmony tracks. Anyway, it's my first band demo. The tape had degraded a bit over the years but I finally got it digitized as best I could in 2007. Finally I should note that to date this is my only "official" recording I've ever done without Jeff as my singer. |

I am still a fan of "By the Wayside". She's On Fire is actually kind of cool. I remember the original recording in its clean and crisp form. It was nicely thrown together. Being the better writer that Tom is, I'd have a hard time believing that he had anything to do with "His steel rod of love, knows when to inject". Bryan did a nice performance on vocals. Tom's guitar solo arrangements are done well and sound much like Glenn and Kenny. That is just an observation not criticism. I understand that the lyrics were geared more for the period of time and the attention of the average audience. I kind of had a tendency to do the same but without the sexual innuendos and connotation. The riffs were simple but very good. Andy, of course, was his usual rock steady self. I had difficulty hearing Carl in the mix. Again, these are merely observations. I am by no means a critic. I have enjoyed listening to this recording the handful of times I have heard it. Thank you Tom for giving us (the listeners) the opportunity to enjoy it and me the opportunity to contribute my 1/2 cents worth.
Tom's Rebuttle: I HATED that line in the song. It's not mine- You know me too well. Not that I have anything agaisnt steel rods- I own one myself.
