This is way off the norm for me- I wish I could do a whole album like it just for the piano but I'll get to that in a moment. Considering how often I overprogram drums I'm at a loss to think I'd ever come up with anything that is just straight kick-snare, kick snare, kick-snare. And then there's the single note thump bass. I must have been in a minmal state of mind that day. Of course, when you think minimal with the core of the music you can do all kinds of crazy stuff with the guitar. I've got all kinds of pick scrathes following some thick jazzy chord phrasing. There was just alot of space to have fun. And now to the piano. Don't know what I was thinking or why I wanted it in there but it's outstanding. What I enjoy about it is the same thing I've mentioned often about my bass lines. They are done on the Boss Dr-5 Drum machine so the pattern sequences are written like typing a key pad instead of fretting a bass or fingering on the layout of a keyboard. All the piano leads are just free form. I didn't know what I was doing or where I was going really. I just set the drum machine to record and ran a pattern until I got something worth keeping. Is that writing music? Does that take any talent? Well the talent is in knowing what's the right take. The talent is in the ears. So assuming everyone in the world has my ears and my taste I'm a friggin' piano virtuoso. I do, I think the piano segments are really unique and if you pulled 20 people on the street and they said it's crap then it's probably crap- but I don't think so.

I kind of like this as an instrumental. Other than Groove, it's the coolest track on the CD. The piano thing is a treat as well are all of the pick sliding tricks. I enjoyed listening to this one so much I had to give it a second run through!

Tom's Rebuttle: I'm relieved. I thought Jeff was going to say the piano was crap. Then I'd be down to 19.
