Music: Mody, Words: Harris/Mody

Catapulting into despair. Eternal Plight. Longevity.
Roaming the land, threatening no one. receiving the blame.
Victims of a holocaust reeling from the aftermath and going insane.

Envious mad. Wither away. Aplogies. Hypocrisy.
Taming the man, strip him of dignity. Passing the blame.
Bringing on the holocaust long before the aftermath, already insane.

Extending the hand. Absolving the history. Evolving to greed.
Rise above the holocaust stronger from the aftermath. Rendered inane.

Of the 3 songs that we redid from the '94 Archivon Demos, I thought this one would get the most benefit because the verse vocals were so harsh in the original. I wanted a 3 part harmony this time around to soften them up- which we did then redid 2 years later... they're still harsh! I just couldn't mix them properly- don't know why. So I decided to take the easy way out and just use some crazy EQ'd and disortion vocal on them. I figured if I can't get it right may as well make them strange- just a different more artistic kind of harsh. The prechorus and chorus vocals I kept from the first sessions in '96 (which were Jeff's very first sessions). I thouht he nailed them perfectly- just crazy and wild, better than the original. We did write new end chorus lyrics together at Jeff's suggestion. Lyrically it was about opression and well... just bad stuff. The additions brought it full circle in that now the oppressed have used sympathy to gain some power (and the greed that comes with power). It's not a debate whether it's deserving or not- it's just a possible perspective- just a song. Musically I never forgot the riffs in the song over the years and I loved the aggressive power surrounding the quick hit guitar harmonies. Though it's an improvement over the original I still don't think I got the right mix and enough power in the recording. Heck, it just didn't record well. Jeff and I often talked about this being the perfect song for Rob Halford's solo band- maybe I'll send them a copy and they can make it crushing.

Not to burst Tom's bubble, but this being one of the older songs from 1994, I was not particularly fond of re-recording it nor am I 100% satisfied with the completed version. While we did record the vox differently, it still is a song that I will skip over to listen to the newer songs. It's just a matter of personal preference...doesn't mean my opinion of the song is good or bad. I liked it when we did it in '94 and that's about it. Perhaps "Rob" could make me have a new found love for the song as Tom has given reference to in his liner notes. Either that or perhaps I will go into the studio next week and Tom will have an acoustic version laid down which will make my mouth water...

Tom's Rebuttle: Now that would be funny... acoustic holocaust. Talk about castrating a song.
