| Once it was finally determined that That's Life was the opening track I needed to create an intro piece for the whole album. It needed to be the complete opposite from Answers which was the closing piece to the album and a kind of silly satirical piece. The intro needed to be powerful and provoking and I had an idea musically that it would have a classical feel. All the songs were written so this was the last piece I wrote for the album. I'm still surprised how well it came out because I was having a difficult time getting the guitar mic'd. It was played on a classical guitar which was the first guitar I ever played (it was my mothers who didn't play guitar). The thing that made it all work was after I finally got the take I wanted I ran the piece through a bass guitar simulator (IK's Ampeg VST) and it gave it a really erie flavor though through thin computer speakers it sometimes just sounds like there's too just much bass in the mix. I did the voice over which of course says the hebrew "L' Chai-im Habaim" meaning "to life welcome" which was appropriate for That's Life's opening lines "welcome to life instant psychopath loser". Funny thing is it's pronouced differently depending on whether the greeting is for a man or just a general greeting.. or so the internet tells me. The most important reason for writting this is that That's Life is so aggressive in opening the album I'm hoping this little intro segue will let listeners know there are more texture arrangements to come. |

Let's see.
I really had nothing to do with this but give Tom the nod of the head figuratively, that I liked it. At first I was taken back by it until I fully understood it. It has an eerie feel which is right up my alley. The Hebrew lyrical content with the eerie voice was an exclamation point to the piece in my opinion. Cool intro to the song That's Life. The meaning of the lyrical content in the intro is pretty cool as it coincides with one of the opening lines of the song. I believe Tom originally wanted to use the Aramaic language for this piece but failed to locate it... that would have been cool also. But the idea blends with the title of the much awaited and anticipated CD. And of course, kudos to Tom for not only inventing the piece, but for a stellar performance with the classical guitar. I really enjoy when he experiments with acoustical instruments. Anyhow, enjoy!
