Music: Mody, Words: Mody

So young am I, such power I guide the course of all man I am life I am death choose a side. So young am I, some say, to realize death and destruction, corruption true poverty's might. Who can pave my roads to justice? I know there's a soul among us. Work this land, foresight in hand, one my people demand shine.

Lead us to light, stars, skies. Clear as the days when our minds saw the praise of hopes, dreams, love. Lead us through dark, cold nights. Peace be your guide and the world will survive on hopes, dreams, love. Lead us.

New spirit I seek, revive the weak. renew my symbol of strength for all history to keep. Tame the mistrust, make life from dust. My resource your wisdom is the key to a life we all lust. Souls search high for the heavens. Only those who believe are resurrected. Make them see my name still means that one and all can reach the stars and shine.

A world full of lies, dulls the red, white & blue in your eyes. That gray bearded man's not as weak as you think he will rise. So young am I but believe my cries. And when fate leads the calling make Destiny's Darling realize. That you'll be the one to take me higher. Warm my people with your fire. Make them believe, try and conceive that life still exists in my hands and I'll shine.

The words and music both go back to 1983 along with Fighting For Life from the Torrod Demo. I recorded 8 songs on my 4 track while living in Los Angeles and this was one of them along with the music for We'll Meet Again. Jeff and I had worked this song out in 1987 which was our feeling out sessions before I decided to form Torrod with him and Andy James. Jeff refers to Torrod 2 because the original Torrod was me, Andy and some other guys back in 1985. I really wanted to record this song with them but we demo'd a different song and we didn't even rehearse it in Torrod 2 so I was eager to get this on tape though now I wish I'd had let it go. I don't like it for this era. Again, I've got alot going on. The intro is cool and is among my oldest riffs. Musically it's very extended which Jeff hates and the chorus is a harmony written in 5ths. My guitar solo is written in that Glenn Tipton style that I like which kinda' sounds like an engine struggling to get going then finally kicks in. The melody is probably mine from the original Torrod days and Jeff's style in this song is a vestige from that time. Very Geoff Tate of Queensryche. He could do that well at times but he didn't pull it off very well here. It's interesting to note that Jeff and Geoff both started at the same vocal style point. Geoff seems to have emasculated himself these days and Jeff seems to have found his groove in a much more powerful way. Geoff's got all the fame but he could learn alot from Jeff. "nuff said on that! Lyrically, Destiny's Darling is America written with that Reagan era spirit but kinda' cheesy.

This song had much potential but unfortunately, in my opinion, the potential was for a different era. I believe Tom wrote this early on in his writing, which, back then, would have been high on the charts of greatness. This is one of the songs which Tom and I worked on in the cold basement of my cabin for pre-production rehearsal to the Torrod #2 project. He had it all pretty much refined in his head by this point. It was a great song to rehearse live and we always liked it but it never seemed to find a way to be recorded. This was the opportunity. Upon completion of our CD, while reviewing, we felt it was a great song in its own right but was the oddball compared to the rest of the recordings. It seemed kind of dated. It used to be one of my favorites on the CD but that sentiment soon faded and has been almost lost in the archives of my mind. There are some vocal arrangements which were pretty cool although I do not believe we captured the scream on tape as it always sounded while belting it out. For the life of me, I have no idea why that is. I am interested to review the Tom version of the liner notes.
