Here we come look for us in your arena. Turn on the lights let the madness begin. We'll give you all that we've got. All that the others have not. Let's all have fun. Raise number one. Stand on your seats and shout... Harbinger.

On and on you're the reason we won't settle for less. Let's take a stand. Hold up you're hand. Heavy metal rules forever.

We'll give you all that we've got. All that the others have not. Stand up and shout what it's about. Heavy metal rules forever... Harbinger

I love the intro riff in particular, maybe one of my all time favorites from Todd. Even Scary Gary S. has a cool drum intro. Billy I'm sure was in his element with the trot rhythm. Time to slam Jeff though. These are the worst lyrics he's ever written. I would have accepted this in 1985 but they are brutally juvenial for the dawn of the grunge era. I'm not one to speak, I didn't see it coming either. Actually, there's nothing really wrong with the lyrics. It's just a simple metal rah, rah, song. It's hard to screw that up. I just don't like them- even from Priest.

Harbinger is just this simple anthem song geared toward live performances. It was really a complex idea. I wanted to write something which we could generate reaction from as well as interact with the audience. Something which youth could relate to both listening to the song in their stereo as well as experiencing live. First we would record the song, air it on the radio and by the time we would perform it live, the audience would not only know our song and where to interact, the name of the band would be on their lips. Incorporating the name of the band in the song was just a marketing scheme. What better way to get our name out there than shoving it down peoples throats through song? Again, I knew what I wanted, just didn't know how to package it. The music was, of course, another great contribution from Todd. I wouldn't expect anything different. The intro harmony is especially cool. Gary seemed to always do well with the more mainstream songs. I am sure that Billy wrote his own piece to this because he has always enjoyed playing the trot bass line. He also sang the backing vocals to this song when we performed live. It's too bad not enough youth were paying attention to college radio back then. We did some interviews with local college stations in the areas we were performing to promote these songs. We even did the K-Rock thing. Either people didn't get it or they just weren't listening. Someone of us still has some of these interviews kicking around on cassette somewhere...I hope.
