Catapulting into despair. Eternal plight. Longevity.
Roaming the land, threatening no one, receiving the blame. Victims of a holocaust reeling from the after math and going insane.

Envious mad. Wither away. Apologies. Hypocrisy.
Taming the man, strip him of dignity and passing the blame. Bringing on the holocaust long before the aftermath, already insane.

I love to be able to work harmony guitar and harmony harmonics into songs and this is one of my best efforts. You get that fast little riff then "chung, chung, chung", fast little riff, "chung, chung, chung". Cool stuff. I've never been known to write short songs but I definately layed this out brief and punchy though Todd may have contributed to the intro melody. The break section is my favorite part where it's "chung, chung" harminic, stop, "chung, chung, chung" harmonic, stop. Jeff was in extreme Halford mode and the verses I think needed a little more attention, maybe a few more takes. It's all pretty harsh for most listeners but the approach was correct. The chorus section I thought he nailed much better. He also worked in his word phrase swapping technique which I love. He asked me for a suggestion on the title and I immediately came up with Universal Holocaust. Having some Indian blood he's dealt with their plight often but I thought this time we could fan it out a little, make it more "universal" in the injustice. Brian was a beast again on drums. I don't remember how we came up with the rewinding tape at the end but we did it as you'd imagine during mix down. Jeff hit the rewind button and made his best guess as where to stop it. He probably had to go through a few mixes to get it. We didn't have computers then. Over all I much prefer the rerdone version on the UDM 2007 release.

Interesting vocal melody although it took long enough for me to figure out that it sounds too much like a Halford vocal melody. I will let the audience figure out for themselves which melody I am referring to. You will notice in the re-make of this tune later this year that we have made changes to rectify this. We tossed around the idea of sending it to Halford with the suggestion that Rob might put his brand on it. I would be ok with that. Anyhow, I took a liking to Tom's idea of making the content "universal" as opposed to singling out a particular nationality. Whenever I get stuck I can always count on him for assistance/direction. Brian of course, came up with a thunderous percussion piece, which helped in setting the tone for the song. In hindsight, I wish that I had time to wait on this one with regard to recording. It seems I was able to refine it more with our rehearsals and nail it better as time progressed. It therefore, would have been easier to record resulting in a better developed product. The rewinding tape thing is just something that happened by accident. Some of the best works are created this way. This particular instance involved rewinding part of this song for playback because it seemed like there was something missing. I like adding little bits and pieces any time I can to try and set us apart from anything else. The recording unit which we were using had a feature where you could hit rewind while in the play mode and cue where you were in the song by an audible measure. And there you have it. This was the ending which we needed. I thought it sounded cool and presented my idea to the guys. Once I figured out how to apply it, I played it back for the guys. I believe they liked it.
